10 Hours without Electronics

5 Ways My Life Was Different

I went 10 hours without electronics. No iPhone, Internet, lap top or iPod. My life was very different.

I’m constantly using the internet and my iPhone. I’m always updating my social media accounts and searching, hoping for updates of my favorite brands and bloggers. When I don’t get an update I feel anxious. I search for new faves or text people.

Here are the top 5 ways that my life was affected:

  • 5 - My family
The “what if” feeling punched me in the face and taunted my thoughts. I wondered continuously, “Is my family on the East Coast okay? What if there’s an emergency? How will I find out?”

  • 4 - My social life

Without my connection to the outside world, my relationship with humanity, life, friends and family was temporarily lost. I found myself wondering, “What are my friends doing? What’s going on in the world of fashion? What’s new with the Kardashian's? What’s next years “color of the year” prediction?”

  • 3 - Forums
Another reason why I cling to the Internet is to seek out advice. I enjoy reading forums and appreciate tips from my peers. Networking is important and forums are a good way to connect. A couple of forums I like:
    • Mayoclinic (emergency room visit for another chronic migraine)
    • Honda (body shop to fix that rattle I hear)
    • Yahoo (vet emergency because one of my doggies are… puking)

My Pomeranian, Malin

  • 2 - The News
I don’t watch the news because it’s depressing, but I do my best to stay informed on Facebook. I’m subscribed to news channels and filter my feed with what I can bear to discover.

  • 1 - Accomplishing Tasks
It took forever to accomplish anything without my phone and the Internet. I don’t have a landline phone in my house and pay phones are basically obsolete. Plus, who carries change? Trying to meet up with a friend or make it to an appointment on time was impossible.

It would be a huge adjustment to live without my favorite electronics. I’d lose touch with my family. I wouldn’t know what’s trending. My personality would float away and I’d feel incomplete. It’s a bit dramatic, but it’s the truth.
